Basics of VoIP
By Kristen Kiya
A technology that seems to have brought about a complete change in the way the industry communicates and networks is VoIP. The technology has spread over like fire impacting every corner across the globe. From all sections of the industry to residentials, it has left its imprint that is almost impossible to remove or replace by any other technology. Usually taken as a complex arena to understand, the definition of VoIP would remove all such misunderstandings.
VoIP simply means passing voice over the Internet. The way data is transferred by compressing it and converting it into small digital IP packets from analogue signals. Before reaching the receiver it is reconverted into analogue signals that are in the form of voice as can be understood by the listener, and decompressed. This not only ensures that the call is transmitted at the cheapest possible rate but also helps provide mobility and has unified communication across the globe.
Keeping this world-wide acceptance of VoIP in view, a number of VoIP providers are there in the market and new ones are starting their business every other day. Utilising VoIP will not only ensure that the organisations cost incurred on phone bills is controlled to easily up to 50 percent, but it also increases productivity thereby increasing the revenue over a period of time.
This, however, is possible only by selecting the best VoIP service provider. Analysing various VoIP reviews would reveal that most of the clients opt for a provider who is able to offer best rates for voice over IP services. Excellent quality is another criterion which should be paid special attention to. For this purpose, one should be aware of the ACD (average call duration), ASR (average success ratio) and PDD (post duration delay) which the VoIP provider offers.
Also a provider which has networking with tier 1 provider and/or has multiple switches and POP's will be able to provide excellent quality routes, thus ensuring quality service.
Some of the premium VoIP service providers offer various VoIP services, VoIP wholesale carrier services, VoIP solutions and VoIP reseller programs.
Depending upon one's specific budget and knowledge about voice over IP functioning, one can easily opt for the option which is best suited to their organisation or the one that they want to venture into.
