Move over phishers, here come the vishers. Scammers have found a new playground - telephony. When somebody calls to tell you that there's something irregular with your credit card account, don't dial the number he or she gives you. Call your regular credit card company office instead.
A new type of scam
Instead of the usual email requests, scammers are using VoIP to get your credit card number, plus the codes. Any call asking you to confirm your account information should be suspect. What could be going on? These vishers are using VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol to rob people blind. That's what. Is VoIP technology going to give you another headache?
If you have learned to avoid clicking links, then learn to avoid calling a given number asking you to input your credit card number. The moment you tap the keyboard, the criminals are recording your account number with their computers at the other end of the line.
Everybody in the household and in the workplace should be on guard of this new wave scamming. Don't be tricked by the official looking number on the caller ID. Ask the caller if he can give you your name or account number and if he cant, it's likely a scam in the making, so shift to the red alert mode.

In some occasions, you'll be asked to give your date of birth too. Then the rest will be history.
